Our night helper, Rachel, started last night. She was courteous and professional (we knew she would be, she was our doula during Mona’s birth). And things pretty much went off without a hitch. Of course the tube clogged again just as we were telling her how easy it was to push meds. And despite my assurance that she had never spit up during her night feed, Ramona decided to go ahead and throw up during her night feed. Rachel took it in stride.

Fellow blogger Ann recommended I post a “Day In the Life” type of thing so folks could better understand how we spend our time lately. Here’s my best shot. Not included are the 80 billion times I check the blog for comments. Also not included are the 40 billion times I open the refrigerator door, stare inside and then close it again. This is a fairly reasonable and accurate account of our day yesterday, but we switch it up and exchange tasks all the time.

Ramona had a fine day yesterday. I did not. I saw an episode of Law and Order a while back where someone was in a medically-induced coma. We are so blessed. Through your efforts to help us get by we’ve received meals, groceries, a cleaning lady and even a baby massage. And we’ve been blessed not just by your acts of service but by your insight as well. Your losses and life experiences have given you a wisdom that has sustained us during a very difficult time.

It is not hard to push my buttons lately. Of all the things that seem to get me going, having people tell me that they are sure Ramona is going to survive is most likely to put me into a tizzy. I’ve been trying to figure out why this is. It shouldn’t be a big deal, I should be grateful for their warm fuzzy thoughts, right?

We had a pretty rough morning. Ramona spit up a huge amount and in the process spit up her nose tube. This means we have to put it back in, which is scary and un-fun. I was pretty upset by the whole thing.

Today Andy’s brother Toby and his wife Bekah go home to Vermont to await the birth of their daughter in May. Thanks guys so much for all of your help, we love you. So starts a new chapter for us. It will now be just the four of us although we will still have a ton of help and are working out a semi-permanent child care plan.

Ramona had her first follow-up cardiology appointment today. It went well. She pretty much slept through the whole thing and did sleep through the entire echocardiogram. I asked all my questions and was satisfied with the answers.
