We had a great Halloween. I’m a little cynical about “kid holidays”, but I have to admit that they both had a really good time. We trick-or-treated at about 4 houses and that was plenty. At our first stop, Simon went up the stairs and when the home-owner opened the door, he walked right in and started playing with their toys. I had to forcibly remove him.

He’s been asking all day now for tweets. He is also pointing to Ramona and saying, “MaMo, roar”. That’s because Ramona was the cutest, fluffiest lion ever. Simon, comic genius that he is, went as a chubby chicken. We got some pics, but you really had to be there to appreciate how funny and cute they both were in their costumes.

Ramona was casted today for her helmet. They used a very fast-curing plaster and the whole thing really only took about ten minutes. It will be ready for her to wear in two weeks. They’ve told us to expect to see some results within a week or two!

We’re still grieving over Ramona’s illness, I think. Just when things seem to be getting better and feeling manageable something else will crop up. Some new appointment, some new issue or concern. It’s a reminder to me of the chronic nature of 22q11 and how many griefs (and joys, of course) are still ahead of us. It’s tiring. It’s scary sometimes. It’s heartbreaking to know we can’t fix it for her. It’s a real exercise in faith to just do our best for her and then sit back and watch what good God will grow from our efforts. It takes some courage.

But Ramona inspires me in that way. She is so brave. She has gone through so much and just seems to take it in stride. So I think I think it’s fitting that the lion costume I originally bought for Simon ended up as hers, it suits her heart of courage. Simon was too scared of it to even try it on, so I suppose it’s fitting too that he ended up as the chicken.

Here are some pics of our menagerie…Jane.
