Peeps

I like to tease the golf enthusiasts in my life by explaining to them that golf has about a 1:1 ratio of difficulty to pointlessness that makes it a bad way to spend your time. This also goes for synchronized swimmers, but these folks are usually in a little better shape than your average golfer and a lot crazier, so you don’t want to mess with them.
So I just had to laugh at myself when I spent 20 whole minutes trying to stack marshmallow peeps on a tiered pewter serving tray in preparation for Simon’s party tomorrow. Not only is this a totally pointless way to spend my time, but it is really hard. They are sticky and top heavy. I’ve decided to add to the time wasted on this project by taking a picture and posting it.
You got to admit though, it’s pretty cute…Jane.
super cute! girl, this looks like a photo out of martha stewart magazine – blurred flowers in the background and all.
now please please please tell me you didn’t handmake the peeps. then i will have to seriously start quetioning your sanity.
Can you put the whole thing in the microwave now so they get all big?
And then take a picture and post it, of course.
i don’t think tiered pewter serving trays do so well in microwaves…
Adorable! If you have one leftover, make sure you microwave it for fun. It always makes me giggle — it’s become something of a tradition at our house, albeit about a 10 second/year tradition!
at my last evil job 4 years ago, i had little in common with my colleagues/bosses because 95+ percent of them played and talked ONLY about golf it seemed. indeed, they labeled me the “token do-gooder” as if it were a bad thing and that was about as jovial as we ever got. so one day i decided i had to engage in their otherwise unengaging golf conversation and i bought me 3 beat up golf clubs at 50 cents a piece at the local rummage sale. i think the clubs had a 5, 7, and 9 on them whatever that means. i rank that purchase and the one conversation i had about them a 10 on the 10 scale of pointlessness. i’d give stacking sticky yellow bunnies a much better rating – i mean it can’t be pointless if it’ll put a smile on simon’s face………. 😉
it looks like the peeps are invading… here to spread their sugary stickiness on the innocents. beam me up.
it’s all about the details…
Hey Peggy,
No way are those homemade. And you have to remember, I’m a wedding photographer, I could make Ho Ho’s look like Buche de Noel.
Depth of field, baby.
That is awesome!!! Personally I like the Peeps chicks better, but the bunnies…well the bunnies you can bite their heads off on a really bad day and it’s so satisfying!
I also second (third?) putting one in the microwave…though that may be better to do while Simon is asleep. I can just see all sorts of fun and exciting things being put in the microwave after the observation of a nuked Peep.
Well done! Wedding photographer, bah you are a world class baby photographer too. Your shots of the kiddos are always amazing, I wish we lived close enough to hire you.
May you have a wonderful Easter weekend!
what is the occasion?
Simon’s 1st birthday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIMON!!
HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL (snot-free) PARTY DAY!!
Simon,
Your cousins want to wish you a very happy birthday. We hope you like your present. We want to come and visit you and your little sister soon. Play hard little Deitrich! We love you!
Happy Birthdays Jane (6th) & Simon (9th)!
phew!
i was beginning to wonder if you were truly some sort of super hero leading a double life as this witty and talented mother of two.
which, frankly, i’m not so sure i’m convinced otherwise just because those are store bought peeps. 😉
happy birthday to simon.
you will have to laugh Jane, I was a syncronize swimmer in High School, yes, a real sport at our school!!!!! I wish I was in that shape now, stomach was amazing! We missed you this morning but thought of you and are praying for you all!
Jane,
I once found a year old peep in an Easter basket of Noah’s and left it on Toby’s pillow as a joke. Well, he ate it, even though it was clearly stale. I think he detected something wasn’t right but he loves them so much he didn’t care. I can’t stand those things, but your display makes them look quite appealing!
Happy Birthday yesterday Jane. I hope you were able to do something fun for you. Also, Happy Birthday to Simon! We continue to pray and think of you often.
Lots of love,
Bekah
Peeps are truly much better stale! Jane, I loved the display.
Happy Birthday to Simon. WOW, it is hard to believe that we met him a year ago.
Blessings to all of you
Nicole
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE!!!
My Halo name at work is “Mr Peep”
I’m not kidding.
Jane left the peeps out overnight and I thought they were kinda crusty. I could not imagine going in for a year-old peep.
Jane,
I thought you might enjoy this “peep” diorama contest.

I LOVE the Peep Tower! For Alex’s second b-day I decided to bake him a Lego Cake since he loves lego’s. I’m no Betty Crocker, you should see what my pastel colored (because I couldn’t manage to work the food coloring to make them in primary colors), blocks look like. Baking a cake from a box is no rocket science, but I’ll send Andy pictures of my attempt and artistry & baking. Mom’s do the funniest things to make b-days that our children won’t even remember years from now special. Happy birthday to Simon and I hope he enjoyed his Sugar Tower of Peeps!
