Shooby to the Rescue

I am out of it. A few days ago someone asked me how old I am and I really could not remember. I was embarassed and thought, “Don’t panic, just subtract back to 1974. Oh crap, what year is it?”
But, for some reason, all this stress and sleep deprivation has brought to the surface bits of trivia I thought were long forgotten and I often find myself humming songs that are strangely relevant to my mood or outlook on that day. Like my brain is trying to help me out. It’s not quite ready to retain what day it is, what we’re having for dinner or when I last changed my oil, but it’s got no problem providing a little ditty to go with my despair, elation, or whatever. And the more heightened my stress, the more likely it is that the song will be a worship song. And if it’s really bad, a hymn.
So I was not shocked to find myself humming “How Great Thou Art” in the car yesterday. More surprising was the “artist” whose rendtion kept popping into my head:

Andy and I used to crack up over Shooby Taylor all the time, he’s a classic. But what the heck is he doing invading my quiet hymn time? Weird.
And here’s the reason I’m stressed enough for a good old-fashioned hymn sing: Ramona is sick. She got our colds. Now that Andy and I both have it, we at least know what the symptoms are. Ramona probably has one heck of a sore throat and a tickly, nagging, coughy feeling. And the two rivulets of phlegm connecting Simon’s nose to his mouth indicate that congestion is not far away.
So we’re hoping so hard that Ramona will be able to get through this without too many problems. And praying that it won’t end up in her lungs. And no more emergency room and no more hospital for awhile.
Take it away Shooby, Jane.
Super big prayers that she gets throught this quickly and without incident! Our family just all got the same thing and yes, sore throat was first. I noticed my SF also had a runny nose yesterday! It seemed to move rather quickly though for us, so hopefully it does for ya’ll as well.

so i clicked on the monkey link and tried THREE times to play the song. the first two times, i thought i must have had a distorted warbly error on my computer, so i turned it off and replayed it, and then (foolish me) finally realized it was the actual song. then i played it fully and i must say i’m left, well, like this: “hmmmmmmmmmmm.” but i am thinking of ramona, and hoping her cold is minor, that she recovers quickly, and that this cold will merely benefit her as a means to build her immunity against later colds and germy illnesses. good day to all. sarah p
p.s. as for keeping simon away from the temptations of ramona’s tubing (re: your previous blog), i was thinking maybe a big old plate of watermelon in a strategic location would be a good tasty distraction! maybe i could just go for a slice of watermelon right now.
I like your idea of a watermelon lure, but alas I think Simon needs to cut back on his watermelon. His poo is pink.
What is that!?
Mock yiddish? the white-elephant-gift of tongues?
Shooby Oy!
JANE!!!
It’s a Small World After All…right back atcha’!
I hope that Shooby can lower blood pressure…because I will be singing him all day!
We continue to pray for you all.
Happy Birthday, Jane!
Happy Birthday Jane.. did I forget? Blessed and Happy Easter. Your always in my prayers..Amazing Grace.
Love A Ro
Last night at work, i wanted to castrate one of the male servers…but instead i started singing out loud…”Jesus loves the little children, all the little children of the world. Red and Yellow, Black and White, they are precious in his sight (even turd face)…” sometimes a little cheesy christian music goes a long way. Birthday!? Happy Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, Jane! We love you, congestion and all. We’re praying for all of you to get better quick.
I’m so sorry to hear that Ramona is sick. I know how scary a cold can be. And how hard it is to try to keep everyone’s germs separate (impossible!). Praying that there is NO trip to the hospital anytime soon.
I hope you have a happy birthday, and that Simon enjoys his party, despite being a little snotty.
a fellow new mother recently told me that she heard that there is a finite amount of cold strains in our world, and that each time we get one we can congratulate ourselves because, well…that’s one less cold we’ll have to worry about in the future (because if we come in contact with that strain again, we’ll be immune to it). now, i’m not sure that’s true or if its just new moms trying to make ourselves feel better about sick babies everywhere – but in the spirit of this information, congratulations, little ramona. one less cold you have to worry about when you’re old and grey like me.
now, if only we could figure out a way to document this information and mass produce a product somehow, we’d be millionaires. so don’t tell anyone, ramona. this will be between me and you.
and happy birthday jane.
Jane and Andy,
I hope that you all get through this lastest bout, especially dear Ramona! I think that I have a mild case of the same thing, and it certainly is bothersome. All of us are thinking of all of you lots here in this household. Big Happy Birthday Wishes to Jane and Simon!! We Love You!

Hey Jane
I am not a Christian but I totally relate to the hymns (although my brain doesn’t produce them as well as yours does). I have a New English Hymnal at our diaper change bed and I flick through the hymns and sing to Wren while we diaper change.
Why?
Well, I grew up going to church and went to a Christian school where we sang every morning. I love singing and it shocks me how many I know. I just see the first line and off we go.
My favorites are sometimes dark like “for those in peril on the sea” and I love the psalms.
Hope Ramona gets the cold lightly and it doesn’t give her too much trouble.
Wren came down with a cold last night and coughed so he woke. He never slept more than 90 minutes except for one 3 hour stretch after ibuprofen. I am squinty eyed and in a frenzy of spring cleaning. It is my way of regaining control over the environment.
Happy Birthday to Jane and Simon.
Loved the bunnies and the light hearted commentary. Reading about the life and loves at the Jane and Andy house brings friends and family so much closer to you. Do you feel the love??? Your Aunt Carolyn (I feel it and am in awe)
Hey Jane, Happy Birthday!!! Praying you all feel better very soon!
