So sorry about the communication delay. It’s been a very difficult week, schedule-wise and emotionally. Here’s the status right now:

Ramona’s appointment with her pediatrician was yesterday. Here’s what we found out:
– Ramona has not gained any weight in the last week. This could be due to a number of factors. Her caloric intake has not been increased since the surgery despite having grown, so she may just need more calories. Also, she’s had a cold for over a week now and has been throwing up a lot. We’ve increased her caloric intake and are hoping the cold will clear up soon.
– The doctor said that he could hear flow and backwash in Ramona’s branching pulmonary arteries! Previously they could hear turbulence in her main pulmonary, but now they are detecting in further on. They seemed excited about this.
– On Tuesday Jane took Ramona to the hospital for some blood work and today they called to say that they found “critical” levels of potassium in her blood. This could be a fluke or a sign of a greater problem so Jane and Ramona are on their way back to the hospital for another blood draw.

We had a busy day today at Rancho Ramona. She coughed out her NG tube at about 5:00am and we’ve been truckin’ ever since.

We ordered chinese take-out last night. I always open my fortune cookie even though I rarely eat it. And even though I put absolutely no stock in anything found inside, I do usually glean something wise or at least ironic. And my lucky numbers for the week.

May meals & groceries

Comments Off on May meals & groceries
Jane and Andy are so grateful to everyone who has been providing delicious meals and grocery runs for their family. Thanks everyone! They’ve authorized me to start sign-ups for May, so check out the “meal schedule”:/meal-schedule/ and “grocery run”:/help-needed-grocery-runs/ pages to get in on the fun. You’ll notice that we’ve reduced the frequency of meal deliveries to twice a week, so sign up early if you don’t want to miss out!

Dude. We have been so blessed by the abundance of home cooked meals you’ve all been providing. Now we also have a real bumper crop of premium food storage containers. Pretty soon we’ll have to start parking the car on the street to make more room in our garage.

Try a Little Tenderness

The past few days have been rough. Andy and I are tired in body and spirit. Simon has cabin fever. Ramona has been going through some Ativan withdrawal. We’re all still fighting this cold. So fear, anger and resentment have been taking hold in the places in my heart where hope is fading. I’ve been short with Andy. I’ve felt panic and desperation when I’ve had both babies to myself. I’ve been jealous that Andy “gets” to go off to work.

Today is Simon’s actual birthday, although we celebrated on Saturday. We weren’t there for Simon’s birth. In fact, the day Simon was born we were out having Indian food to celebrate my birthday. Today I want to acknowledge and thank the woman who brought our boy into this world. The following are some things we know and don’t know about you, his birthmother…

A big thanks to the sweet soul(s) who set up a surprise Easter Egg Hunt for Simon in our backyard. He loved it. He was very excited to open up each egg and see what was inside. A few had quarters so we also got a chance to let him use his piggy bank for the first time.
We don’t know who you are, but I bet we’ll know you when we see you by the extra jewel in your crown 😉
