CT results

Jane just called me and asked me to post the results of the CT scan. Here they are:
# Ramona will be having surgery, probably on Thursday or Friday of this week.
# The doctors do not yet know exactly what they are going to do. They are waiting for all the surgeons to weigh in before making a concrete plan. They will probably decide tomorrow.
# The cardiologist looked at the CT results and could not find any significant growth in Ramona’s arteries. Since there is very little change, they cannot attempt surgeries that would entirely repair her heart or even improve cardiac functioning at this time.
# The surgery this week will have two goals: 1) to repair the aneurism, and 2) to try something new to encourage her arteries grow. They are very confident that they’ll be able to repair the aneurism. There are a few options they’ll need to decide between to help her arteries grow.
Jane and Andy are pretty disappointed to hear this news about Ramona’s arteries. But they are grateful for the healthcare available for Ramona, and they are glad that they now have the knowledge and experience to be able to participate in the conversation with the surgeons to decide what next steps will be best for Ramona.
Keep on praying!
We continue to pray and lift you all up. Our hearts, prayers and love are with you all.
We’re thinking of you.
May God bless you and Simon and your precious little girl. I pray that the Lord has great miracles planned for sweet Ramona and that you can find some peace and rest over the next few days.
Life is full of miracles — Ramona & her family touching so
many lives — a miracle. I continue to pray for God to touch
Ramona, Andy, Jane, & Simon with continued blessings and
gratitude for bringing us together on this journey — Mary Cavanagh
Sorry to hear the discouraging news about Ramona’s arteries. But it is great news that they are confident that they can fix the anuerism and that they will try something new to help the arteries grow. Any chance they would place the g-tube during surgery too? I know they often don’t want to add extra time under anesthesia, but they might consider it…
Dear Jane and Andy, Thinking of you and so sorry about the upcoming surgery…praying for whole your family…praying for miracles and healing for your sweet baby.
Our prayers are with you all.
Dear Jane and Andy
Know that you and Ramona remain in our prayers. I love you all.

I am really bummed that the cath and scan didn’t show any growth in the pulmonary artery. I know that her growth and demeanour made it seem so likely that things would have changed.
I know you are happy with your cardiology team/surgeons but have you considered seeking a second opinion from one of the really big cardiology centers like CHOP or CH of Boston?
Both of these institutions seem to attract the more complex cases so they develop expertise in making these kind of judgement calls. We had Wren’s tapes sent down to Stanford and felt better about our choice when they had similar views to our Seattle team.
It is fairly common to do this – you would just ask your cardiologist to send the tapes for a consult at the other institution.
Anyway, I hope that the aneurysm is repaired successfully and even if they can’t do the normal repair, I am really hanging onto the thought that the cardiologists come up with something that makes a difference in a good way.

Hang in there, sweetie. Your mom, dad and Simon love you sooo much. You are one tough cookie. (Don’t worry if you don’t know what a cookie is yet. I promise to sneak you one at a future playdate and you can see for yourself!)

Hi Jane,
I just read all of the posts from the past week and was shocked. I am so very sorry that you guys are in this spot once again. As you know, Jack had his second surgery because of an aneurysm as well. It is so crazy how similar our little babies hearts are. I will be praying for Ramona and for you guys as well. I hope that surgery goes smoothly and that they are able to try something else to get those arteries to grow. Have they talked about a conduit???
Hang in there and please know that you have many people praying for you. These little ones are stronger than we could ever imagine and are true heros.
